Recently, I got to try one of the top vegan restaurants available is at Epic Burger, a local Chicago burger chain; it is committed to using all-natural ingredients and trying to make eating a little more conscious. I had never been to Epic Burger before because, for whatever reason, I just assumed that they would have no vegetarian options-and boy, was I wrong! Thankfully, I recently had the chance to sample their vegetarian items and absolutely loved what they have on offer.

The Burgers Epic Burger has carried Beyond Meat patty since July 2017-meaning it was one of the first burger chains to actually take Beyond Meat on as a regular burger offering. Of course you can always customize your Epic Burger with any kind of patty, bread, and toppings. I had their Beyond Meat burger as is – wheat bun, vegan mayo, lettuce, avocado, and tomato.
This patty was crispy and savory-just the way I liked it. I really am not into whole wheat buns, but the idea of having a healthy bun with a Beyond Meat burger sounded really great. I thought the vegan mayonnaise complemented the Beyond patty perfectly. I don’t really like plain mayonnaise, but their vegan mayonnaise wasn’t overpowering; it just added a slight touch to the burger. Of course, the vegetarian patty didn’t have to end with Beyond Meat! I’m always so thrilled when burger spots offer vegetarian patties comprised quite literally of vegetables! Not against the Beyond products; those are great, too-but normally, it’s just great to be able to eat more natural, plant-based stuff. I also had their Veggie Garden Ranch Burger, and that’s on a wheat bun, too. It would have been nice to have a different bun, or just have another bun option for one of the vegetarian burgers, but this was still welcomed on this burger.
They make their vegetarian patty with zucchini, spinach, carrots, peas, and onions, so it really is a healthy and good-tasting plant-based burger.
The texture wasn’t as crispy, as much as with Beyond, but still it stood out pretty well, ’cause sometimes vegan patties could get a little mushy. This one was far from mushy; the texture was great.
Their Veggie Garden burger came with their spicy garlic ranch, which they make in-house. I generally don’t like ranch, but it wasn’t overpowering and complemented the veggie patty really well.
The Beyond Chicken
Of course, the vegetarian option that I was most looking forward to trying was the Beyond Chicken tenders. I really used to love eating chicken tenders when I was young, and vegan chicken has been slow to follow its successful vegan burger sibling, so I was interested to see how these would go down. Super crispy and flavorful with a side of spicy buffalo sauce. Each burger came with a side of fries, both sweet potato and a bit more traditional variety. Sweet potato, waffle fries were crispy and delicious served with a side of their honey mustard. Truthfully, I did just love the sweet potato fries bathed in that buffalo sauce for some added spice!
Both the truffle and regular were also good with sea salt, and I must say that fact that both are fried in canola oil makes it easier for anyone who has a peanut allergy to appreciate the fries, too.
The shaking epics
Now, my Epic Burger fest went all the way to dessert! I had their Nutella and vanilla milkshake-not vegan, of course-and there is a vegan lemon sorbet version. I really do hope they have a vegan milkshake in the near future. The milkshakes that I did have were divine, most of all the one with Nutella. Anything with Nutella, I swear to God, is anybody’s dream. And after all those salty snacks, I found the flavor of hazelnut just so appealing.
If you are feeling some healthy-ish, indulgent vegetarian treats, I highly recommend checking out Epic Burger for their plant-based chicken options, veggie burgers, crispy fries, and indulgent milkshakes-all worth your try.
What really impressed me concerning my visit to Epic Burger was how the persistence of quality ingredients and adaptability in the menu fit for every kind of food preference without losing out on taste. The fact that they have both vegan burgers using Beyond Meat but also traditional veggie burgers really speaks to them covering their bases for so many tastes and dietary options.
But here’s the cool thing with Epic Burger-the customization. Be you staunch vegetarian or just a slight dabbler in the art, you could always mix and match any kind of patty, bun, and toppings to make each visit different. From the perfect crispiness of the patty in Beyond Meat to the spice balance in the Veggie Garden Ranch Burger, this is a company keen on the details to make meals delightful and beyond the mere meaning of fast food.
Then again, there’s those Beyond Chicken tenders that just throw me right back to that love as a kid, flipped on its head with some kind of modern twist. Capturing that something from classic chicken tenders-only brought into a plant-based form, deliciously familiar yet new. From spicy buffalo to a bit milder, with sauces to cover the gamut of taste buds-well, these tenders are quite up front and center in their vegetarian line, not second fiddle.
Sides and desserts at Epic Burger include sweet potato fries, wittily served with sweet and spicy sauces alike, which marries texture and flavor in just pure delight. They fry them in Canola oil, considerate to the diet-conscious without having to sacrifice flavor. Desserts, like the Nutella indulgent shake, complete this experience of Epic Burger with that touch of sweetness and oozing indulgence. While not all are plant-based just yet, the desserts offered hint that very promising developments are indeed in store-one might mention here the already available vegan lemon sorbet.
Epic Burger is not just a place to grab a quick bite; it’s an invitation to explore creative culinary options that cater to various preferences without skimping on taste or quality. For anyone seeking a delicious adventure into plant-based dining, Epic Burger is a must-visit destination that promises satisfaction in every bite.
